Pinetop was a US pianist whose life was tragically cut short by a stray bullet. His 1928 recording of his original ‘Pinetops Boogie Woogie’ is the first record to have ‘boogie woogie’ in the title. The track has influenced generations of boogie pianists since and is still a classic performed around the world by contemporary artists. A boogie rite of passage is writing your own unique version – no mean feat considering the number of versions that have been made!
