US boogie pianist and singer, blind from the age of 9 who cut his teeth playing piano in his dad’s speakeasy in the late 20s. He recorded solo materials became known for his work as session pianist for records by other artists such as ‘Sonny Boy’ Williamson, Tampa Red and Big Bill Broonzy. His 1952 tour of Europe with Big Bill Broonzy was key to blues music being heard and appreciated outside of the US.
