US pianist and singer who played some seriously fast boogie-woogie. After playing the club circuit, Martha’s recording career saw her achieve hits with “Little White Lies” (no. 11 on the Billboard R&B chart) and duet “Daddy-O” with Louis Jordan (which reached no.7). Subsequently she toured a popular musical comedy act with husband and bass player Calvin Ponder. She sadly died aged 42. Put your seat belts on for this one:
