US jazz pianist, composer and arranger who played with Duke Ellington at the tender age of 13. Mary Lou was an innovator who, whilst mainly a jazz artist, recorded some unique boogie-woogie pieces, one of which you can hear below. Rutgers University preserve her archive and have an oral history interview available online. Below is an interview recorded in 1976. There is also a great book on her fascinating life called Morning Glory.
